Last night meeting of the bug commission, we discussed distribution of the posters, I’ve enclosed PDFs below please use as you see fit. I feel they are both fun and informative. We had a rep from Swamp Inc.  the CEO we discussed larvae sitings etc.  and his company is on track with getting rid of the larvae before hatching out. It’s been a very dry and windy Summer so far which is good for keeping down bug population but bad for fire hazards.
Also we have Swallow nesting boxes. If any members want one let me know, and I think they will be given free. Talking of free the fed gov. will be giving us some zika testing boxes to put around our marsh area, to obviously check and see if we are getting the zika mosquitoes. Not likely up here, but we’re taking the boxes and will be siting them, best to be on the safe side.
Here’s relevant minutes from the last meeting

1.  Denis and Tom attended the last BOS meeting to present the idea about Mosquito Awareness Posters. Denis did a bang up job presenting the concept and the BOS approved going ahead with production and distribution. Allegra Printing did a fine job designing the posters. Tim Sanborn made a motion to approve the posters as submitted. Motion seconded by Tom Aspinwall. Denis excused himself from the meeting due to another engagement.

2. Tom Aspinwall praised the efforts of Swamp’s staff for all the work necessary to produce the monthly activity reports. Mike Morrison said he will pass on our thanks to Justin and other staff members.

3. Skiff’s at Rye Harbor – a resident complaint concerning the water trapped in the skiffs could potential be a breeding site. Tom responded to the residents the next day saying that the Town would address the situation. The Town contacted the owners and they said they would bail them out.

4. Concerns were voiced by Sally King (RCC) over the storage of swallow nesting boxes at Goss Farm. She mistakenly thought that Swamp was storing company equipment at the farm. In reality Justin was given permission by Tom to put the last 20 swallow nesting boxes with the others. Goss Farm is where the green head traps and nesting boxes are stored for the winter. The question of what to do with the unneeded nesting boxes was brought up. Tom asked Mike to give him the total of what the Town has invested in swallow nesting boxes. Perhaps the staff at the Wentworth Golf course would like to purchase some. Mike will check for interest.

5.  Mike Morrison submitted information about Zika virus and the threat it may pose for the northeast. Tom suggested that Mike put the information he has on the town website so it could be accessed by Rye residents and summer visitors.
