The Rye Town Museum will open for the season on Saturday May 3rd from 10-1 and every Saturday through October.<\/div>\n

The museum is also open on most Wednesdays 2-4.<\/div>\n

The historical society has mounted a new and in depth exhibit on Rye history which depicts our town’s past<\/div>\n

as it has never been seen before.<\/div>\n

Entitled: Digging Into Our Past: “A New and Exciting Journey Into Rye History”<\/div>\n

the exhibit is in four parts, each one in more depth.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

Part I usesÂ part of the museum to depict a linear history of the town in images, artifacts and words.<\/div>\n

Part II uses the rest of the museum toÂ tell thematic storiesÂ such as agriculture, religion, tourism, maritime, military.<\/div>\n

Â Â Â Additional themes will be added in May such as land conservation, town political history, climate change, Rye in the 1970’s, etc.<\/div>\n

Part III is contained in a dozen three ring binders entitled: “An Illustrated history of Rye” which contain many of the photos which<\/div>\n

Â Â Â Â could not be put on the wall.<\/div>\n

Part IV is a 100 page time line of Rye history based on some of the majorÂ sources. This document was created<\/div>\n

Â Â Â Â as a guide in writing the new history of Rye, an on going project of RHS.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

Visitors are invited toÂ watch films relating to Rye history and respond to what they see and experienceÂ in the exhibit through comments,<\/div>\n

suggestions, stories, information and photos of their own, etc.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

As visitors leave they will see a series of questions to ponder as to how an understanding of our past can help us better understand current issues<\/div>\n

and plan for the future to help keep Rye the special community that it is.<\/div>\n
