Landfill that sits 800 feet from Rye Water District’s primary Garland Well. Our highest combined readings to date are 152 ppt and 88 ppt. Information on PFCs Click Here

Assumption of the BOS: We are lucky and detected this before it got to the water supply since readings are lower at the Garland Well.

Current Actions: More testing, getting more data focused on the rate that PFC may be moving towards the Well. Approach is not focused on determining how much PFCs have spread across Rye through our water system.

Hypothetical Assumption: That these PFxx have been leaching into our water supply for many years. Levels may fluctuate daily and have spikes when batches of carcinogens enter the water supply.

Sampling: The current testing is not continuous. So this is a wide mesh net we are using and it is very possible batches of PFCs slip through between tests.

Grove Road Landfill: The State DES was opposed to locating the Garland well 800 ft. from the Grove Road Landfill. When the State told Rye that we had to act because the Grove Road Landfill was 800 ft. above the Garland Well, RWD and others thought the “capping” activities would accelerate contamination from the landfill. Selectmen Musselman (was not a Selectmen then) was the engineer (CMA) who worked with the State to leave the Landfill as is and “Monitor” the landfill. CMA analyzes for free and submits to the State the results of testing done for Rye by an outside laboratory for free.

History of PFC: . In 2009 the EPA issued the first Provisional Health Advisory for PFOS and PFOAs Click Here. It was not until NH DES told Rye to test for PFCs in 2017 that we added this test to the monitoring. See the EPA site on this topic. See history of PFC concerns: PFCs Summary Timeline – Commercial Prod + Disposal

If the PFC have been in our water supply for years, lawn irrigation spreads this on our yards. Landscapers and residents then bring the clippings to the brush dump that also is up hill and in the Aquifer of the Garland Well (also everything else at the Dump). Click Here for 2014 Minnesota study of PFOS and PFOA in Homes and Gardens

Background on PFC Click Here

Timeline of PFC concerns and court cases: Click Here

Conservation Law Foundation – Efforts for Coakley: Click Here

RCL Clean Water Document: Clean Water Information RCL Sept 5, 2017

Table of State PFC levels: State by State PFC limits

August 23rd Presentation – Coakley Landfill and Pediatric Cancer

Aquarion wells in N.
