{"id":638,"date":"2013-05-26T10:46:33","date_gmt":"2013-05-26T10:46:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ryecivicleague.org\/?p=638"},"modified":"2024-06-20T05:25:24","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T05:25:24","slug":"a-new-history-for-rye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ryecivicleague.org\/?p=638","title":{"rendered":"A New History for Rye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\"><br \/>\n<html><body><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">&Acirc;&nbsp;A New History for Rye<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Using Parson&acirc;&euro;&trade;s History of Rye, Bill Varrell&acirc;&euro;&trade;s &acirc;&euro;&oelig;Rye on the Rocks,&acirc;&euro; and other published sources,&Acirc;&nbsp;Alex Herlihy of Rye Historical Society <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">has created a detailed time line of four centuries of Rye History and it is growing daily.&Acirc;&nbsp; Soon this time line will turn into a running narrative <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">and eventually a new history of the town.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Also included are details from his personal 20<sup>th<\/sup> century knowledge and that of&Acirc;&nbsp;others. It is this last category that information is needed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">If you have any facts, stories, anecdotes, myths or photos to loan etc., please send them to: <\/span><a href=\"mailto:info@ryenhhistoricalsociety.org\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">info@ryenhhistoricalsociety.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">. In addition, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">the history will include historic newspaper accounts of Rye, primary sources in the museum such as probate, tax and other records,<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">town reports and many other print sources. However, it is the human stories, both direct and handed down from <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">earlier generations, which will truly enrich this history.&Acirc;&nbsp; In the future RHS will hold gatherings at which people can share stories which will <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">be used in the history. Also needed are volunteers to interview older members of the community and to help with other aspects of this new history project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We welcome everyone&acirc;&euro;&trade;s contributions so that this will be a true village history.
